Shrewsbury River (SHROOZ-BE-ree), NE N.J., short stream entering navigable estuary (c.8 mi/12.9 km long) that extends ENE from Oceanport (head of navigation) to junction with Navesink R. estuary at entrance to passage to Sandy Hook Bay (N). Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, and other resorts are on sandy peninsula sheltering estuary from the Atlantic.
