The site of Barnegat Lighthouse (on the northern tip of Long Beach Island in Ocean County) has been used by ships of all sizes as a signal on where they are going, and where they want to be. Though this site may not be used in the same way it was back in the early 1900's, it does stand as a noteworthy point on the horizon for many daily visitors.
The grounds of the park offer beach access, a nature center, picnic areas, fishing into the Barnegat inlet, access to the lighthouse (you can go up to the top when open), and a few trails throughout the dunes.
Regular state park fees apply during the summer season (Memorial Day -> Labor Day).
The park is included as a maritime site on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.
